Catonsville

Catonsville was founded in the early 19th Century by Richard Caton along the "Frederick Turnpike". By the end of the century, wealthy Baltimoreans built large Victorian summer homes here to escape the city heat. With the advent of the automobile and electric trolleys in the early 20th Century, Catonsville became primarily a year round community.

Today, Catonsville has over 40,000 residents. It has recently been ranked by Money Magazine as the 3rd best city in Maryland and Virginia. University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and the Community College of Baltimore County are both in Catonsville. Adjacent to Patapsco State Park, recreational activities abound. With Catonsville adjacent to the Baltimore City limits, it is a short drive to downtown work and activities.
