Elkridge

Elkridge was built as the seaport dock (as Elkridge Landing) for the tobacco growers along the Patapsco River in 1755. An iron furnace operated there until the 1860's. In the 19th Century, many Baltimore attorneys built summer homes in the "Lawyers Hill" area of Elkridge. Many of these Victorian homes still stand today (one owned by one of our cousins!) In the 20th Century, Elkridge was an important town along the Washington Turnpike, now U.S, Route 1.

Today, Elkridge has both its historic Old Town and new home developments. Elkridge is close to BWI Airport and bisected by commuter routes I-95, 295, and 100.
