Laurel

Laurel was established as a company mill town in the early 19th Century. In 1835, the B&O Railroad connected the town to both Baltimore and Washington, D.C. By the late 19th Century, many of its residents commuted to both cities on the railroad, as they still do today.

Today, Laurel is an incorporated city of 25,000, but its postal address extends into Howard, Montgomery, Anne Arundel, and Prince Georges Counties with over 100,000 people. It is a mixture of historic properties and modern housing developments. It is flanked by two commuter highways, I-95 and 295, serving both Washington and Baltimore and the new Route 200, extending into Montgomery County.
